using maxwell for archviz is compared to shoot flies with railgun.

so only compulsive paranoidal detail lovers are doing that.
and we are only few so making another forum is waste of time.

it is better to ask NL for another subforum right here.

Maybe -- but then you really KNOW that fly is dead!

Maxwell is light. Light is not exclusive to any industry and it doesn't change for anybody -- it is what it is.

When people talk about industry specific use they are talking mostly optimization and aesthetic -- and on those fronts it's better to get fresh input and ideas then just traveling in the same old circles with the same old people. Rather than being a weakness -- cultural diversity enriches us all.

Best,
Jason.

I'd also vote no to this suggestion. I'd rather we have Gallery and WIP forums that are constantly being added to, as opposed to lots of seperate areas that are too spread out and less busy. With mutliple forums, when a render covers two or more categories (maybe a product render set in a fully furnished interior) you'd get a bit stuck on where to actually put it.

Plus as it is, everyone see's everything which is good. People might glance over certain forum categories they're not particularly interested in and miss some good renders otherwise.

Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far, even if you are not in favor.

However, I want to clarify my intention when I first proposed the idea. This is not about putting people in boxes or seeking special support from NL. It is about growing a community of users.
Right now, the forums as they are designed are chaotic because everything is thrown into one box. Visualize that closet or garage where everything is a pile of stuff on top of stuff. Pretty useless.

For example, wouldn't the gallery be much more useable if there was a drop down menu where you had the option to sort by category? And wouldn't it be pretty cool to be able to link back to a discussion (or
similar discussions) that led to that final image. Or maybe the general discussion forum could be sorted by category via drop-down menu too?

I agree with everyone that we do not want to lose the energy of the forum. All I am after is figuring out a way to make to this website more useful not only for archviz, but other disciplines too.

I am not a web designer, but I am sure there are all types of tools and ideas that could take this forum to a whole new level.

what else can i say ?

I think you are thinking about, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."

ahahah.. yes maybe that too... but I do recall a large Billboard on Sunset Blvd in LA that was saying a family that pray together stay together..; lol...

I agree with you soarchitect quite a bit (probably 80&, but not all the way). The reason I can't say I fully back you is because this forum is used to learn about Maxwell as a program first and foremost and that's what all the posts deal with
. Although the users have quite a range of uses for maxwell, everything that the users talk about on the forums are specific questions about maxwell, the program (how do I do this in maxwell...etc). If maxwell were not a such a niche renderer, I think it would be good to have specific areas, especially architecture, like you mentioned. Right now, i feel like it is not strong enough in numbers to have a sub-forum for architecture, nor any sub-forum.

Having said all of that, I would love to see some ongoing threads related to different areas or work. Even beyond that, some "challenge" threads that people would get involved in. (i think the challenge thing has been tried in the past but went nowhere really) correct me if I'm wrong.
