I have two .mxi's that won't merge. I think it's because one has just the render channel whereas the other has 3 different channels. That's the only reason I can see why they wouldn't be merging.

Anyway, I wonder if I take the two renders into Photoshop if there are any tricks I could do to sort of manually merge them together in order to reduce noise.

.. that is quite a mind breaker..

if at all i'd say import mxis as 32 bit and blend normal with 50%. have you tried?

considering a single pixel, if calculated upon a unique seed, in both images will have a different color value.. so shouldn't even a simple blend between the two give a more sophisticated result than each could represent by itself??

I'll have to give it a shot and report back. I wonder if there's anything fancy that could be done using the Difference blending mode? That would tell me...well, where the differences are, but I'm not sure what I'd do with that knowledge.

I'll be working on it this weekend so we'll find out then.

It worked out pretty well. I don't have time to post picks, but just overlaying with normal blend mode at 50% worked pretty good.
