Has someone tested the demo?
When I try to render my setup, it gives me another result...
The checkboxes are checked in each tabs (BG, Ref, Refr, Illu).

I tested the demo before the full version -- the biggest difference is the red synthetic at the top which will change its wattage to match the wattage of the most powerful light in the scene.

To use the demo successfully I just treated the red synthetic as if it were part of the lighting scheme and use several equally powered lights to minimize it's influence... also I recommend disabling the background (at the bottom of the list) to get a handle on what the lights are actually doing when demoing.

Bear in mind that the demo will only allow you to "preview" render via Fire -- you can save the Fire images but a real Maxwell render is not possible with only the demo.

I recieved a question reagrding the ability of HDR LS to deliver hard shadows and crisp highlighting and there seems to be some confusion on that topic so here's a quick (30 min) render to illustrate how easy that is to get:



Here's a jpeg of the EXR used:



The basic idea here is if you want hard shadows/crisp highlights just make the light small and powerful.

BTW the material used for the render was a Wizard "Greasy".

No problem

Part of the problem there is the demo only puts out a low resolution HDR to Fire -- you need a higher resolution EXR/HDR to really take advantage of something like this... if you don't have enough pixels to show the lights full power then the render will not achieve the desired results.

Perhaps this also shows that the demo is a bit too crippled to give us a chance to fully test it and evaluate it properly. A bit more freedom and resolution would not have hurt to have.

I just started playing with the demo today and I have to say its very impressive and about as easy to use as I could imagine!

I've got one more to do and I am interested in feedback.
