tx, for the updates and fixes. Maxwell is getting better all the time.

Just a reminder, the filecounter at export to Maxwell so that my renders are not written over the previous one....

Since I usually make several renders from the same SketchUp model, I think it would be great if the name of each rendering (and the exported maxwell related files) corresponds with the name of the SketchUp-scenes, instead of the file name...
Perhaps an even better option would be to include both names, eg. the mxs "file name_scene name.mxs".
Of course long filenames might occur...

What about a simple Append Scene Name option in Output, so it stays file-based by default, but allows per-Scene file naming as well, if so desired. I think you need that, because though you can't have two identically-named SKP files in the same directory, you can have any number which all contain similar Scene names. In which case, you would end up with overwrite confirmations all the time because you're trying to overwrite a Current.mxs or a Scene 1.mxs that was exported from a completely different SKP.

yes, this would be a helpful addition! :D

btw. i have two problems with the current plugin (v2.5.0 had it too)

1. i can select a hdri/exr only one time. After that i have to restart sketchup to be able to select a different hdri/exr. i can deselect it but not select a new one after that.

2. I get black faces without material on some faces in nested components using automxm, even with no material applied (default materal)
i have copied the bad objects to another sketchup file to isolate it but the problem disappeared in the new file, i don't know why - I'll see if i can reproduce it on a smaller file...

On the first issue, can you elaborate as to what you mean? Does the dialog pop up allowing you to select an HDR? If so, is the new HDR filename shown in the IBL channel? Where does it go wrong? And which OS are you on? On the second issue, if you can send me a file, I'll check it out.

win7 x64 with sketchup 7

i'll try to isolate the black faces and send you the .skp and .mxs, thanks!

I recall you previously had an issue similar to this. Is Scene Manager > Options > User Interface > File Browser set to Custom or Default? Does it make any difference which one you use? If not, could you go to Scene Manager > Options > Diagnostics, enable Ruby Echo and JavaScript Echo, and see if you find any errors reported when you attempt to browse for the HDRI?

:oops: looks like you got it again... i switched from "custom" to "default" and it seems to work now. yes, your right - now i remember this too :lol: long time ago on my old system... i already forgot about it - but you didn't! THANKS! :wink:

as far as i remember, i didn't change the setting to "custom"... is "custom" the default setting after installation?!?

The default is Custom -- Default is only provided in case it might help when an issue arises. If you have the time, I'd like to find out if you are able to catch any errors using Diagnostics > Ruby Echo and JavaScript Echo, because I'm not able to reproduce the issue here.

- the Ruby console doesn't show anything in custom mode.
- this is what the javascript echo shows when i press the button:
Code: Select all
message::from_sl =>
{
    "type" : "request",
    "name" : "environment.background.file",
    "data" : {
        "desc" : "Background File"
    }
}
the same as in default mode but nothing happens...

Thanks, that gives me an idea of what's happening. So there's one more thing I'd like you to try: you can enable a very verbose ruby reporting mode by typing MX.log=true in the ruby console and hitting Enter. This will print all of the communication which takes place on the ruby side, so that I can see how far it's getting before it stops.
