More on resolution size.

When generating a render, output resolution (w/h) is affected by whether you are going to be printing out the rendering or just viewing it on screen --right?

If you are going to print it out, you decide what size you want it to print and depending on whether you want it tobe be 200 or 300 ppi you set your image size accordingly.

On the other hand, if you are going to generate a rendering to just view on screen then you would take into account that screen resolution is 72 ppi (right?) and size the image accordingly. If this is true, then how does one know how big to make it? What we're trying to do here is save time in generating a rendering by making it smaller -- but if we do that we want to make sure we can view it full size on our screen. (We have a 27" monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440.) How does one figure out how big to make it for 72ppi?

This is where we are totally confused. If an image that will be printed out at 300 ppi is going to need x amount of resolution -- wouldn't an image that is going to be displayed at 72 need less?

Monitors do not have an a standard ppi anymore -- this was true many years ago but you can have many possible resolutions (density of information) with todays hardware just by changing the resolution settings of your video display.

If you want to fill the full screen use the resolution of your monitor and don't worry about whether it is 72 ppi or something else.
