Sorry, what's the benefit of divide blending mode for overspraying?

if you cut in closer than the full leaf then I guess you don't need to overspray, you just use the full leaf clipped by a somewhat smaller mask.

This is OK and of course clipping with a smaller mask could be another solution and the result will be smaller.

If you place a white mask on top with blend mode set to divide, and if you place a premultiplied RGB image on black below, then the result will be that the RGB will become automatically oversprayed.

Automatically oversprayed? I'm surely missing something at this point. Could you demonstrate this on the leaf?

I think there is a misunderstanding here, because the image pairs provided by Michal has another issue. What I'm pointing to is not that kind of edge issues with improper alpha removal. The leaf images themselves have off-the-leaf colors and their alphas also cover these areas. So, even when you do what you suggest on these pairs (instead of your specially built example) you will notice it's not the same thing. On the other hand, the provided PS action is just doing black-matte removal which is more closer to your example and I've also outlined this on the Think! website tutorial.

Hey Tom - mate is there a technique you use for overspraying the edges? I've always had difficulty achieving a good outcome and tend to just make the background a single colour as an average which then has some minor errors obviously.
