How many polys do your emitter object have Gary?

Only a single emitter in the scene (1 poly). Maya scene has 2.6 million polys. Maya 2011.5 64 bit,OSX 10.6.5. 2 x 3.2 ghz quad core xeon 16 gb ram.

Using Maya's ipr and mentalray however, updates instantly with no problems. I can move lights objects and get almost instant feedback.

...but if I move the light, even 1mm it takes about 45 seconds to a minute to complete voxelization and continue rendering. This is far to slow to light a product intuitively and interactively...

NOT a problem w my maya scenes.. moving lights updates as fast as any other change..

How many polys in your scene? Of course, it's not a problem if I'm lighting a sphere.

I want to ask, how i can set time in Fire preview options more than 999 s. I know Fire mean interactive , but interactive is relative term. It would be nice, if i can set time for 30 min or even more - i have slower machine - 30 min Fire preview will be better than 30 min RS2 image.

BTW, I can't believe no one has not yet mentioned the new Draft Mode in here:
it's uses Fire, but runs under Maxwell render, so you can set time (over 999 secs.), exact image size, control ISO/shutter speed during render etc...
So, there's solution for everyone who wanted to do the 'final shots' or animations with Fire.

And you can get something like this in no time
