Hi all,

we get a strong white edge to the default carpaint which comes from the Grazing layer.

Is this a realistic property of carpaint or a setting for users to tweak per scene?

Cheers,

Steve

Don't seem to be able to post images to this thread.

The white line appears to be coming from the white floor.

Oh, I have upped the Nd on the TopCoat, to up the reflectivity. This probably isn't helping.

Cheers,

Steve

In order to post images, you need to upload images to free image hosting services such as imageshack.us etc. and insert direct links between [img]...[/img] tags here. It's hard to say something accurate without seeing your settings and output.

For more frontal reflection, you need to turn off Force Fresnel and play with Reflectance values instead.

The floor is off white, 0.950 and reflectance 90 is 0.975.

I'll look at switching off the Force Fresnel and post back. Cheers for the info.

I've got rid of the black line by putting the Reflectance 90 to black, although I thought the reflectance 90 should always be brighter than Reflectance 0?

Very sorry for asking over and over but, could you please show the *complete* material setup?

No worries.
Here's a complete breakdown of the shader - all based off of the default carpaint.

the last image isn't too bad with a grey Reflectance 90

Actually, the problem is about additive blending as it's not taking care of the energy overflow. So, when you have a topcoat with high reflectance and/or high Nd, it causes overly high reflectance at grazing angles. Try normal blending and feel free to keep your reflectance or Nd as high as you need.

there's still a strong white line using the default carpaint and changing both blending modes of the Top Coat and Grazing to normal
