Hi all!
Does someone know where the following problem could come from?

Maxwell V2 with Cinema 4D R11.5:
I basically have a cylinder shaped object which when rendered with a certain semi gloss material and only in certain areas seems to have no smoothing / phong shading applied though phong angle is set to 45° which should be more then sufficient.
The scene is lit by a series of planes on which an emitter material with gradient map is applied or it is lit by the physical sky system with sun.

Strangely with a clay material this effect doesn't show up.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi jojojoj -- sorry, I did not notice this post. Do you think it would be possible to reduce the scene to just one or two of the cylinders, in Cinema format, and then send it to me (jeremy at nextlimit dot com), zipped up along with any related textures (material, hdri, etc.)? It is possible to see shading artifacts when using highly-parallel light sources like the sun, but your test image looks to have a different issue than that.

It may depend on exactly what you mean by emitter material with gradient map -- if the gradient is not very wide, possibly what look like shading artifacts, are actually steps in the emitter gradient, being reflected in a properly-shaded cylindrical surface.

Hard to say without a scene to test with though.

So, is this a known issue?
