i have a sphere that i use for illuminations and reflections and some tifs on planes that i use just for reflections. they are high res, but on the object they look very rough... any ideas to resolve?

I assume from the other topic that this is a Maxwell material applied to a sphere which has inverted normals? In that case, open the texture in the Maxwell material editor and make sure to check 'Filtering'. If the material is a Cinema material, go to the Cinema tab in your Scene object and make sure 'Use Interpolation' is checked, so that your generated Maxwell materials will have this flag enabled.

If, on the other hand, you are using Image Based environment, make sure that 'Use Interpolation' is checked in the Environment tab of your Scene object.

i´m sure that you know the case when the software uses the preview for rendering because the link to the original file is broken...cinema for ex. uses pathes for this case...and maxwell? i thought i had this problem of missing search paths and could fix it by defining them... not all of my used tex are in the same folder...

btw: when i define a picture based texture in an empty cinema window and copy it to the main project when finished the picture is lost??

So, is this a known issue?
