Why bad for user? It's still available for free.
Yes it is, but it seems is not going to be updated.

I meant updated for free, I don't think Pixologic has buy Sculptris to give it for free.... of course it would be great if would be like that

Good news everyone!

Sculptris is back on the road, thanks to the good folks at Pixologic.

As you know, it wasn't my intention to continue Sculptris development beyond the current version. I could not justify all that continued effort for a hobby project. However, I will now work full-time together with Pixologic to figure out the best way forward and go there.

What we come up with might not be exactly like Sculptris 1.02, so to leave all doors open we're downgrading it to alpha status again. I was never truly comfortable with calling it "1.0" in the first place, since my time plan allowed for so little in terms of polish and testing at that point. It was just my way of calling it done.

Alpha 5 is the new old thing - same as the 1.02 version you have been using this summer. This version will remain freely available of course, but it is considered a prototype and you can't expect professional support for it.

The most impressive part about Sculptris is the community, and how you collaborate to make the application more useful than it could ever be on its own. I have intentionally kept a low profile ever since the release, mainly because I was intimidated by the sheer volume of stuff on the forum, and I couldn't possibly give due attention to everybody. I decided that it would be reasonable to answer email and private messages only.

Our forum administrators have done an amazing job here. Wikkid and Taron were gracious enough to take the helm when I left on my vacation adventure across Europe, but I've often worried that they would end up with too large a burden. Hopefully everyone has worked together to keep it enjoyable.

A new official Sculptris forum has been opened on ZBrushCentral. The old forum will remain open, but ZBC is a better home (without ads!) so I'm sure everyone will gladly migrate. You are welcome to help each other move valuable tutorials and help threads so new users can find what they need there.

We have not yet decided exactly what we will make next, but naturally it should cater to the existing Sculptris user base in terms of accessibility and affordability. We hope you will all join this new forum so you can discuss the current version and your thoughts and wishes for future tools.

Thanks for everything so far, and let's make sure the future will be even more awesome!

He said he had not intened to upgrade his great toy. but anyway we can using it. that's good thing. :)

And here is another comment about sculptris on the site.

"Sculptris Alpha 5 is a prototype of software currently being developed by Pixologic™."

Whatever they make another sculpting tool or upgrade ZB, I hope they will release another Alpha or Beta.

I have to say that this tool is just a feast to work with, it's been a long time since such a cool modelling tool came by.
also that uv paint toolset is really great and easy to work with, it seems that I've got a new "toy" to play with!

I never find these sculpting tools user-friendly but I must admit Sculptris caught my attention. First of all, it has a fantastic realtime triangulation with a very flexible reduce-brush. Second, it has a usable UI. Good job there!

this is so cool... I've never modelled an ear (or something organic like that) before, but using Sculptris it is so easy and intuitive
