Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

as long as NL sticks to its Philosophy qualitywise, and this is NOT using crappy gpu techniques, I'm fine with it.
Though I doubt this is the final engine used for rendering..

Anyways, good one, NL, keep your Betas in the cattle ;)

cheers

The video is definately very exciting but i don't wanna jump to conclusions just yet based on it. Maybe it's a intentional leak which is cool, and lots of things points to that including the timing of different events including Siggraph around the corner. But still, this is not quite enough to convince me. I need more and better proof. :)

IF this is real, it's unbelieveable!!

And if this were to be a fake, it has cost somebody A LOT of time making this. You would have to mimic everything with real Maxwell renders and use After Effects to apply a filter each time
he rotates the viewport, not to mention the interaction with the Studio UI There are a lot of craze people in this world but this would be pointless to make, especially a video of over 5 min.

So i think we can call this pretty much functional GPU rendering with maxwell. Although i did not see a rough glass dragon yet ;)

Oh btw, he used Maxwell 2.1 and that version is out for a few days now. The video is posted 19 juli, that's gives him very little time to make such video.

who said, what makes you think that this has anything to do with gpu ? ;)

well he is ( probably "was" now ;) ) obviously a beta tester, so he had that build even before it got released to the public, so...

I doubt its a fake, it might as well just be a feature test, not necessarily a must to be implemented. If NL decides to develop this any further, or once release it, I bet it will be nice and not gpu based, as there are way too many limitations and flaws that way. ( stated in many other threads, as well as the frosted challenges ;))

till NL doesnt officially put any statements, I consider this a proof of concept, nothing more. ( there were others in the early stages of maxwell, that never made it into the final build, so..)

looking forward to Sigg 2010

cheers

The speed... or do you think this is a sort of renderfarm he is working on?

So yes, the conclusion would be, he is/was a beta tester. My intention was to prove that it couldn't be a fake video because of the little time he had produce it, if he were not a beta tester ;)

Well he did not show us that. Correct me if i'm wrong :)

In my Opinion, thats NOT fake....its the future of doing things..GPU! Thats how Showcase renders interactively....and by the way have you heard of ARION RENDER - unbiassed maxwellrender concurence in GPU and......OCTANERENDER...
....who's the first to to have developped it?! Thats the real question we should ask now and which one's robust enough for production.

Well done for NL.

well, isnt the cpu fast enough for itself ? Look at Keyshot or Arion, they can both produce those results WITHOUT the use of gpu.

Tok_Tok wrote:Well he did not show us that. Correct me if i'm wrong :)
well the videos shows very small/ simple scenes.

right, the i7 is powerful enough, I bet NL wont introduce CUDA/ OpenCL usage that easy, since its just not usable for certain things, like huge scenes etc..

just ask Tom ;)

I am Maxwell-fanatic but I think that Octane is a great app even if I don't use it for now... Every new app has something fresh and useful to give to the user... Octane's power is not only GPU, it is a biased preview engine with very good results, combined with unbiased methods for the final image... There are some nice features that cannot be judged only by the final output...I suggest you visit their site and check the gallery... For the price and speed ther results are really nice... at least for architecture... I understand the need of hi-fi renderings for product presentation but for architecture Octane's results are top quality to the client's eye. Don't forget that Octane is still a beta software and lacks many important features like emitters and displacement...

This is good in all. But we need LESS NOISE in ALL aspects of maxwell. GPU rendering can wait IMHO! What's the point of having realtime Noise? Don't get me wrong i love maxwell and next limit, but for me it's about noise, and will be until it's gone.
P.S. Let me see an interior with daylight coming thru glass with caustics turned on and no noise. Then I will be impressed.
