Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

I changed jobs a few months ago, not planned but it's worked out pretty well. However, I don't get to render much any more. Not a Maxwell shop and I'm managing more than I'm designing. I miss modeling and rendering for fun. At home I'm running OSX and Fedora... any suggestions for cheep or free modeling and rendering solutions for fun. Looking to do mostly architectural scenes but taken to the next level of entourage, grunge, realism, etc. My professional workflow was Revit + Max + Maxwell but I'd like to start from scratch... eventually adding Maxwell at home but not going to spend the money until I actually create some great scenes. Is Blender the way to go or should I stick with Sketchup (which I used many years ago a bit) or is there something else I should know about.

Thanks,
Missing Maxwell...

you may try luxrender 0.7 and SmallLuxGpu (SLG), its GPU little brother/demo for 0.8. It is works on os x and linux and the main plugin is for blender.

Sketchup and Moi is a good combination.
Blender is for free.
Octane is the cheapest and best choice If your GPU allow this. ( Wait for the next half price offer )
