Being an American, I am not a huge Soccer fan, but this year's Worldcup has really given me a big interest in Soccer (even outside of the Worldcup, I'm pretty sure I will now be a Soccer watcher!)

I love that promotion that NL has going on, it gave me a HUGE smile when I received that email now I have a team outside of the US to root for :)

The first week was a really fun rivalry in my apt because one of my roommates is from the US (he loves soccer) my other roommates is from London, as well as his girlfriend. We had fun with that US vs England game! yay soccer!

This World Cup has been pretty dire so far (as much as it pains me to say it), so if it's got you into football then you'll have much better things to look forward to in other competitions. :D

"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."

One of the biggest issues I have with soccer is this... At the slightest bit of physical contact, one or both of the players involved flop to the ground in seemingly agonizing pain to try to get the ref to hold up a little colored card.

In fact it's at the slightest bit of physical contact that doesn't let you go with the ball. Usually players are grabbed, pulled, spit, kicked,... but you won't see them dive when they can make a good move or have a clear goal in front unless the fight is too hard.
Fouls are part of the game and if you are not going to make it through with the ball because your oponent is grabbing you, you have to make it evident to the ref.

and about flopping. Yes it is annoing in football to see grown man waining like babies, but I watched NBA finals ( don't like football so much) and see some great examples of flop from Paul Pierce or Artest. but basketball is found in Canada so ....

In NBA it is most funny they call finals WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP , and then gets spanking on olympics or real world championships

Thanks zdeno.
But actually I'm not a big fan of football, but a baseball fan.
My nickname is the legend dodgers pitcher's name.
And I'm using 'billywagner' as my other e-mail account name.
My phone number is Nolan Ryan's total strikeout count. :)

I agree

but do you have to lie on the ground rolling around crying like you've just been hit by a truck well after the referee has given you the free kick and we can see from the replay that there was no contact with the body part they are holding anyway. I love watching soccer but this part I find appalling.

You're cracking me up man. Baseball is big in Japan, how about Korea?

Back to the WC:
I think the games are gonna get better now. Most of the safely playing teams aren't passing to the next stage, i just wish South Africa had survived the group :/
England and Germany meet, classic. And soccer hasn't died a silent death in the US, thanks to national hero Donovan.
