Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

It's very clear the market direction and its very sad not to hear what will be the NL direction for maxwell render. I am already exploring what other options are available and for me a hybrid cpu+gpu seams to the best option so far.

It seems to me that many people will have problems with these apps... It is -in a way- the end of rendering as a separate job so freelance CG artists will have serious problems... Unbiased rendering in real time and especially with easy and powerful material setup like Maxwell has, would make really easy for everyone to finish the job... The impression many clients had, that you just drop a new material/color to the model and everything is finished, comes true...
Let's face it... Nobody liked the Mental Ray setup, the many hours and the continuous hardware update we need with Maxwell.... GPU power solves everything... Unless you make BIG projects or animations you will be able to have really nice renderings very fast.... Especially since there are so many standalone renderers all you have to do is learn a simple modeler of your choise....

i understand your worries... and i also think that we will see a lot more people "rendering" than we do now.. simply due to the ease of use, and the cheaper hardware involved.

But in the end, i believe that such new technology will raise the overall level of production.. it makes all of us better.
Also there will be a shift towards (unbiased) animation/film production,... something that opens a completely new field, which didn't really exist...

well... things still need to be modeled, after all :D

also, don't forget that even with every better phone taking photos nowadays, there are still photographers around...

what in the end counts is quality, experience, dedication and professionality.

cheers

I agree but what counts most these days is what you can do with less effort and of course less money... So, I am sure that all my clients would prefer to have Octane and a slightly simple rendering than Maxwell and pay me to do it ....

The artist must choose the appropriate tool for the job.

Octane seems very very interesting product, but in an another side, I think that they are killing the market by a discount like this...

Guy , imagine the same situation for us, it's like if a new freelancer guy, freshly arrived on the market, arrive and break all "rules" prices, and offer the same job for 10% of the normal price.
Ok clients would be happy , but us, freelancer guy or creative guy, would be angry because we can't fight, and to stay alive ,we would have to work harder, faster and more and more , for less money , just to keep our job...

but yesss, it's a so good and amazing price , for a good product like this and it's difficult to resist;) so .... :D

I remember when I bought my copy of Modo 301. Luxology was about to release 401 so 301 was very cheap couple months before releasing 401.
I think the price was only 345€. Perhaps RS is about to release OR 1.0 soon.. I don't know..?

My nvidia is gts250 1GT and it cost about 140€. Just make sure it has enough memory - that you going to need if you are goin to work with OR. I made this whole scene just in 20 minutes so gts250 1GT is enough ..for now.
