I recently upgraded to Windows 7, FormZ 6.7.1, Maxwell 2.0.3.0., and Maxwellz v.2.0.1.3 at the same time.

Now, I've noticed FormZ is SIGNIFICANTLY slower at exporting Procedural textures to the MXS file.

The materials in the file I'm currently working on export in about 3 minutes with Maxwell v1.7 and Maxwellz v1.7.1. This same file takes about 3-4 hours to export with Maxwell v2.0 and Maxwellz v.2.0.1.3.

There are about 200 procedural textures in the file. I'm saving the MXS and MXI to a shared server over 10/100 ethernet.

Is this common? If not, I can send the file.

FormZ v6.7.1, 32bit

Hi Craig,

I have not noticed any inefficiencies with the export of procedural textures. I have noticed some strange intermittent I/O lags with fz6.7, though. So we can rule out this i/o thing, as well as the possibility of some sort of network lag, can you quit formZ, start again, and try exporting again and see if you get the same results?

Is there a lot of geometry in the file as well?

If you get the same result, post back and we'll proceed to step 2.

Check the 'rendered texture resolution' in the 'export' tab in your 2.0 file. Maybe it got set to a higher value. Small values like 256 x 256 are almost instantaneous, whereas 2048 x 2048 takes a long time, especially with a lot of textures.

Basically, during export, each procedural textures is being rendered by formZ at the size specified in the pulldown menu. For example, if a 256 x 256 texture takes 2 seconds, the 2048 version might take 64 seconds.
