I just installed the new CPU this morning and hadn't seen any benchwell results for the 980x yet. I figured you guys would be interested how this new 6 core chip works with maxwell. Here are my results using the stock 3.33 ghz speed. For Comparison, the i7-920 I was using at stock speeds was giving me 12min 15sec for the benchwell scene. TWICE as fast!! I will be doing some tests next week with it overclocked and will upload those.

I am MORE than pleased with this chip for Maxwell. Although fairly expensive, the ease of the upgrade and speed increase more than make up for the price, IMO.

Yeah, the 920 was tested on Maxwell 2 as well. For some reason my 920 was a tad bit slower than other people's times. :? what time do you get in benchwell at 3.8?

Twice as fast!!!

Thanks so much for posting these results - I'm right on making a decision on a new machine and that just did it!

Brian I have to ask how long would it take to render an exterior scene with a few trees on your 980 system do you think? at say 2400 x 1800 or something nominal pixels!

Take a look at this:

and this:

That price is around €281!!!
Yes... but you have to compare this price to i7 quad cores - today amd's proc's are much slower than intel's at the same speed and core count... and you can clock the intels much higher

but this is 2,6 GHz to 3,8 GHz... you can clock the 920 too

I don't know how much better or worse they are, but I think they have to be taken in account, don't you? As those are supposed to be released next week we'll soon see some reviews.

I'm interested to see how these AMDs perform, based on the fact that they are 6 cores, even if they are a lower speed. Based on what i've seen in benchwell, maxwell seems to like more cores over higher clock speeds? if you can get one of those AMD's overlocked to the 3.33 that the 980x has as stock speed, it might be a better value for the money, considering how cheap those AMDs are. I was able to get my 980x over clocked to 4.2 ghz tonight and that only brought my time down from 6m15s to 5m27s. In theory, the AMD running at 3.33 would have the same 6:15 time, for about $500 cheaper. At least, potentially.
