I am just about ready to buy onyx tree but have some questions i wanted to ask before purchasing them. My workflow at home is maxwell version 2 and Modo. If i buy onyx tree can i place them in studio in stead of Modo. And if so does Maxwell Studio support proxy objects. Can I easily texture them in studio? I ask this because of right now i think the Modo plug-in can only handle certain replicators or proxies. Any advise would be helpful.

Yes mate you can import them direct to maxwell studio - just export from Onyx as OBJ, when texturing it's just a drag and drop process as UV's are exported from Onyx very well in fact. Maxwell will support instances internally but not proxies!

For me Onyx / Maxwell is a brilliant match as maxwell has little if no issue with the poly load and man can Onyx generate polys!

One thing I found when getting up to speed with modelling in Onyx is that trunk height can be misleading, i was assuming it was the roughly the full height of the tree as the trunk becomes a branch as it extends to the top! But trunk height is seemingly at the point it becomes a branch! My trees ended up tall with tiny leaves! Keep them short, I start generally with a 3-4m trunk height.

Good luck!

I love using Onyx Tree. The tree making app is very customizable. Although my workflow involves Max so I can't help you with Modo or Studio. But I can vouch for the quality of the trees.

I use Onyx Tree as well. I export my tress out as .3ds and import into Form-Z. I love it.
Here is a Mesquite tree I made with Onyx Tree and rendered with Maxwell.

Thanks everyone. I am still a little fuzzy as to what maxwell can handle out of Modo as far as Instances or proxies ( their called Replicators in modo). But I have to do something because clip mapped trees just aren't cutting it any more. The most realistic renderings are using 3d trees in my opinion. Once again thanks to everone.
