Don't know if the Maxwell plugin has anything to do with it. I copied the large file and then culled out everything not related to the rooms I'm working on, but still crashes with the smaller v5 file. Crashes when I try to insert another Rhino object from file. Any help would be greatly appreciated as the program has become too unstable to work with :(

So far, so good. It also speeds up the insert/import function tremendously. I've had a number of occasions in the past where Restore Viewport crashes Rhino. I always make it a point to save beforehand. Joe

When in doubt, make Rhino do less work -- restoring the viewport involves the plugin going through all of its materials and all of Rhino's, finding out which ones need updating, and updating them. So, if you have alot of materials (not Maxwell ones -- you can't see it, but there may easily be thousands of Rhino materials in a document), that can take some time. And apparently, as shown from the log you posted (btw, so you know, you can just copy/paste that, rather than uploading a whole screenshot), Rhino doesn't like it happening at the time that it's happening, so disable the On Load restore and do it manually as necessary when Rhino's not so busy opening a document. I expect things are changing quite rapidly in this area in V5, due to all the work they're doing in Rhino's materials area.

I sure agree with making Rhino do less work...I was not aware that it was restoring the viewport at that time. I would much rather do that manually when needed as you said.

I'm sure you've heard this often, but if it was not for all your help I would have quit this game a long time ago, which is a shame, because I love the Maxwell render output. Joe
