The fact that people are still complaining about Next Limit after all these years just doesn't make sense too me. I understand we might of had an argument back when they released RC1. But years later it seems people keep bitching about Next Limit for the most trivial things. I for one have gripes about all software I own but i don't consistently beat down the company on their web site. Besides people that might be looking into purchasing Maxwell may be turned away by the attitude found on this web site. I have been using maxwell in production for the past 2 1/2 years and have had little to no problems with it. Vray on the other hand is a struggle to use and i always had issues with my renderings. I say Thank You next limit! and keep up the good work. :D

I never complained about NL and I use maxwell for more than 2 years. but I don't think that a newer version that is not working for me is worth the money they charge. maxwell is very expensive - you need powerful computers to get results - and after investing in hardware and software - I don't intend to upgrade for a version that crashes a lot...

now - if you don't know the new version - how do you know it crashes a lot? I never experienced crashes so far with v2... for me it works fine.

as I mentioned before... everytime a new version is released, I d-l it from the client area and try it. I dont care for the watermarks since I just want to see if issues are solved (not for now - for me at least). so what do you mean by "gotcha" ?

For me v2 is MUCH more stable than v1.7 - especially the studio. It's the first time it's possible for me to move objects in a shaded viewport fluently and without crashing! It's a great release, no doubt! The only problem for me is the upgrade price. So the promotion is a good option now.

MRV2 is starting to be interesting for me, thanks to the Modo Plugin (i don't even ask for a Modo plug for 1.7)
I just saw the new one is out, but not sure about the replicator (looking further and waiting for users conclusions).
Also, how much V2 is faster than 1.7, do some of you have a ~% based on your own renders?

About the speed differences between 1.7.1 and 2.0, although i think that has been covered in numerous threads before i feel that 2.0 increase in both speed and imagequality makes it a worthy upgrade if you wanna continue working with Maxwell Render. I can't say for sure how many percent faster 2.0 is as it varies a lot from one scene to another so i guess users that makes one types of scenes will notice a certain amount of speedincrease while users who create different types of scenes will notice a smaller increase in speed. It's very difficult to give a general good answer on that. What you could do is play with the trialversion for a while and then decide while the price is acceptable now.

We also have to remember that Maxwell has only been with us about 5 years now! The development from the RC stages to now is a big accomplishment in my eyes! Next Limit have proved themselves again and again with every release! Has anyone notice how quickly we're getting updates and bug fixes lately!? - V2 is very stable and powerful this is a sign of even bigger things to come in future releases! :) In the next week or so ill have a full V2 license as once you jump into V2 there is no going back! :D

good for you. I feel that MAYA users are left behind (I can't upgrade with all the problems I had). If -from the business side of it- it's better for NL than I'm just gonna have to live with it (or with other software)

You feel wrong. The Maya integration is at least on par with any other 3rd party renderer currently on the market and the plug-in is actively developed. We release updates about once every month or two and we've added several important features post-launch (instancers, pack'n'go etc.). A new version is probably going to roll out next week.

You've had a negative attitude since the 2.0 launch, but we've taken all your problem reports seriously. If I recall correctly, you've complained about two things: an engine crash when trying to render a 1.7 scene, and the fact that the plug-in sucks because the material wizard takes one extra click to access. The November 2009 update moved that button at the top level in the material UI, hoping to make the plug-in suck less. I don't know the status of the crash bug, but it's not related to the Maya integration anyway. If you have other things to report please do, and we'll fix them as soon as possible. However, to the best of my knowledge, the plug-in is pretty stable and exposes all of Maxwell's features, so nobody is leaving anybody behind.

I don't know what got you so upset, but being unreasonable won't make anything better (for example, you've asserted that "no one is going to apply a material then start punching in numbers at the BSDF", which is... well, weird). You are free to call every detail a showstopper if you want, but saying that we're leaving behind one of the most important 3D platforms is spreading misinformation.

well, perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I simply can't (and I try everytime there's a newer demo) get renders to finish. Most of the errors I mentioned are fixed yet I still get lots of crashes that I can't trace (sometimes a scene crashes at SL 3, then SL6, then SL 4 etc..) and it's related (I think) to emitters - and it never happened to me on 1.x (I tried to use them instead of sun). About the MAYA stuff - maybe it's not related to MAYA and in that case I take my words back - but I still can't get renders to high SL like in 1.7 . That's why I think there are still problems. Maxwell is great - I always say it - but for me only 1.7 is great ...

I remember a while back when I was using V1.7 I had frequent crashes it got more and more annoying! My pc memory was at fault so I replaced it and everything was back up to speed and running alot more stable. :) - Sometimes the crashes can be hardware based

no chance :( everything else is working quite fine, and I've tested the same scenes on 4 different PC's..... it's like ver. 2 refuses to render scenes that have big-area planes as emitters ("v-ray" like area-lights that you put near windows etc.). never goes beyond SL 8, usually crash comes up to SL5.
