.. well sure some poeple are unlucky.. always .. I mean every large company has tons of complaints.. hehe Look microsoft...
but mostly poeple complain about service and stuff.. or.. it died after 2 weeks and only 5 cokes spilled on it.. what the..

Personally, I've had LaCie products for 15 years.. never had a glitch..

well in fact that one maybe even better.. and 5 years warranty.

I'm not sure if I'd invest in Raid 1 again ...
If you got a good backup running you could go for Raid 0 and its speed advantages. But a backup (ideal would be hourly) is essential since the failure rate is much higher than just one disc.

I have one Drive from Lacie. It is a net drive and it was supposed to be Gigabite (as announced) but it cannot reach even half that transfer speed; of course I noticed it after buying and testing it myself. After that I read about that "issue" in internet. :/

Oh!. It also broke once, but it still had warranty. (Ooooh, cool)

I guess I cannot recommend Lacie although I have only tried one; it could be just bad luck.

Also it is too hard to setup even connecting through USB (maybe because of the net drive interface).

Hi Hervé

there are many different raid systems, depending on what you need there are basically 4 types:

- integrated raid, on chipset of motherboard; > your mac pro should have an "AHCI/RAID" mode to enable raid natively in bios; you can then configure any connected drives (if the same type) into a raid 0/1;this is usually done in a raid bios, which will show up once enabled in main bios. Downside is that you might have to reinstall OS cause changing the Host controller mode after OS installation is a tricky thing. it depends on you system/mainboard.

- external raid via USB or eSATA. usually two drives in raid 0/1. eg. http://www.fantec.de/html/en/0/article.html

- external raid via LAN > NAS. a mini filesrver often running on linux/debian with 2+ drives. nice for little lans. eg. http://www.buffalo-technology.com/produ ... ation-iii/

- dedicated raid card. if storage security is your concern go for raid 6. it is also very fast. i run 4 1TB segate ES2 in raid 6, which gives almost 2TB dual redundant storage, it is faster than 2 disks in raid0 and large enough to hold all my projects and important files. i can recommend ARECA they make some of the finest raid cards available: http://www.areca.com.tw/products/pcie.htm

hey... thanks !

- Fernanado... Mozy.... sure... at $0,50/GB/Month... 500GB (approx what I want to save) would cost me $250/month... hehe.. $ 3,000/year... not expensive..? well I can buy a car for that price... hehe :D

- Polyxo,.. I cannot find the drive here either.. no idea.. anyway, integrated RAID.. I can forget about.. no way.. I am looking for a simple solution.. a double disk in one external drive that can do Raid1... that's all.. that Fantec looks nice too.. but I see nothing better or worse than the Lacie..(. what is the big difference.. at least they have the same big blue led... hhe..

well this is not easy to choose.....

Well, I looked at Home version, which has unlimited storage for $4.95 /month = $59.4/year
I guess you cannot use that version for business. He he, oops.

Thanks Fernando.. I found this link from one of your links..

https://www.sugarsync.com/sync_comparison.html

it looks like this company is the best... now I am just wondering if I like the idea of sending my entire HDD content only god knows where.. that's my only point.. other than that, it looks cool... maybe I could use it as a companion.. more security always helps.. but for some reason, I like having my files not far... ok, call me paranoid.. and well yes I am... hehe

....
Thanks
Hervé

@ Jose.. they have a special La cie edition called enterprise, a bit more expensive, but 5 years warranty.. not bad..

hi herve', for what do you need that RAID? for speed, for size or for reliability? it depends very much on what are the priorities... if reliability and size is the main factor i can really recommend the drobo (http://www.drobo.com/) - i have one here in my studio for one year now, and i'm very happy with it. it's not built for speed but for reliability. sort of RAID5, but with total easy handling for the user. means that you can add more capacity when you need it, and you can basically use any size of additional HD you want. if one drive fails, you simply replace that drive (slot in, now screwdriver needed!) and there is no data loss.

if you need speed, well, then better look for something else. i'm probably buying this one soon: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-dri ... D/Desktop/
