about backward comp. : maya will read any of my older files - to version 4 where I started learning maya. arc+ reads all my older files - even 10 versions away back to the days of DOS ! Don't mention photoshop that reads every old file. and here, I guess you don't have a complicated database like those....

ok I didn't upgrade yet but in the start of this thread I wrote why. I'm still waiting to see that those issues are fixed before upgrading. I like maxwell but for now 1.7 will do.
