Hey all,
I made some rendering with Maxwell Studio and I'm impressed how fast you get good looking pictures. But now I want to use the UVs from imported Objects and have no idea which format imports the UVs.
And I have a bugish problem in Studio. The viewport often doesn't redraw, there is no update when I navigate.

Thanks in advance

Lorenz, which modeling application do you use? If you are using a plugin, you will find object UVs exported in MXS (Maxwell Scene) file. If you work in Maxwell Studio by importing objects you can try OBJ, 3DS, LWO, FBX etc. Have you already tried one of them?

Viewport refresh problem is something rare. It could be about your graphics hardware and/or drivers. In Studio, find Edit / Preferences / Viewport / Performance / Vertex Buffers. Uncheck this option and restart Studio to see if that helps.

I'm using Houdini. I know there is a plug-in, but I like studio for setting up materials and light. Besides, I have the apprentice version, and there it doesn't let me save to mxs.
I don't know that .obj supports UVs, that helps me. Now I know, I must look into exporting the right way. I can hardly recall there was something called UV baking.
Anyway, thanks for the answers!
The viewport thing doesn't go away with the trick mentioned. What a pity... I just replaced a ATI with NVidia 9800GT because of display failure in Houdini. Would be great if this could be worked out. I can say so far, that it occurs after setting up a camera. In both, perspective and camera view, there is only a little square that updates.

We are also seeing this viewport redraw issue on both our machines.
I can trigger the issue if I open the right mouse button click menu in the viewport. After the menu goes away the viewport artifacts around the spot where the menu once was. The issue also appears if I resize the Maxwell Studio Program Window. When I maximize the program window to full screen the palettes on the left side of the screen (default layout) occupy almost half the screen and after the palettes are resized the viewport doesn't seem to refresh reliably.

I have adjusted the viewport preferences, turning things "down" as it were, but there is no change. I did the same in my system graphics preferences with no luck as well. I have also tried several versions of NVidia drivers to no avail.

This is making it unbearable to work inside Studio.
Any Suggestions?

The problem is especially bad on our 30" LCD (2560x1600) Desktop.

We use the plugin for 90% of the work we do.
In this case, the model was too large to save fully assembled in Rhino so we had to import all the pieces into an mxs file via studio. We've been working with McNeel to address some of these issues.

Sometimes I find it easier to work with the cameras in Studio anyway. Our files are typically large and awkward and in the past Studio has been a little zippier for doing camera and lighting setups than in Rhino.

I hear you...I'm a little concerned myself about "hitting the wall" soon with Rhino as far as being able to keep the scene "fully assembled" inside of Rhino. I see that Rhino does not seem to be able to handle very large files as well as some other apps....like C4D and MW Studio (probably 3DStudo would also handle large files very well...I've not used it).
