I typically prefer hashbrowns with my eggs but haven't cooked them up yet...in the meantime I'm looking for
suggestions to make this food look more appetizing...seems the eggs need some texture but not sure of a sound approach to getting
it to that next level. Also, the edge of the eggs is bothersome...seems like a clipmap should be used instead?

It looks quite tasty already as it is :) what you could improve and change are ofcourse the lighting which is dull and very evenly distributed now. And instead of trying to create the eggs with maps, model them on your plate and then map them with your Maxwell materials. It will probably look more natural and it will also give you more control over thickness and shape. Throw in some 'speculars' on your bacon to show that it's fat from the butter it been fried with. A knife and fork would also be nice to see in the scene.

Looking good jvm, though my eggs usually have bubbles around the edges, yours look a little flat, I would complain to the chef :lol:

Yeah what Maximus said, perhaps with the bacon a weigtmap on the roughness so that some of it looks dry and some oily.

The bacon isn't bad ... a little thickness seems obvious.

The eggs would scare me as a bad GMO experiment that slipped by the FDA. lol.. Seriously though, ..in CG terms, a really good start.

Maybe modeling the egg is the way to go ? I'd model 3 separate pieces -- white, yolk and a that part of the egg white that sometimes doesn't get cooked which would cover the yolk and meld into the cooked white part.

Then perhaps adding some kind of displacement map to just the egg white for the surface variation.

SSS materials on yolk and white, and simple dielectric for the film part.

Trying to get away with this just using displacement and single surfaces is asking a lot, ..that said, I think Tom or Herv + ALT 0233 could get away with it. Yeah, ... you too Kurt. :lol:

More grease!!!

I'd google 'bacon and eggs' and check out some of the images and try to get the bacon more greasy to match the photos. The eggs whites could use some more thickness so it looks like it's really sitting on the plate. As is it looks a little to thin and stiff.

#1: The egg needs depth (white part's height), that's what i can spot right away.
#2: The yolk needs less 90° reflectance, though it's hard to say due to #3
#3: The scene needs to be brighter and more saturated :)
