Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Thanks Bubbaloo for your test. I have found the same thing with some pretty high res maps but always get a similar result.

It seems that to get those super fine scratches to pick up the light you need to bump them, but you always have to bump too much to get them to pick up the light and then they seem giant and deep. Either that or the reflectivity of the metal 'washes' out the smaller scratches.

I am up to my eyes for the next couple of weeks but once I upgrade to V2 I am going to spend a lot of time on this until I get it right.... or at least closer than I am now.

Bubba: That's not quite the look of it, atleast i don't think it is but as always i might be wrong.

Cary: Procedural scratches are like any procedural texture, they're completly resolution independent and seamlessly tileable. You can zoom in to half a milimeter close to the surface and they will still look sharp and as detailed as they do in a more distant shot. It would be optimal to have a very customisable procedural scratch type material we could tweak as we want. Btw, sorry my name is not Tom, hope it's ok i replied anyways. :(

Hey Max- In that first Simball those are about the right size... but they need to be more random. That way when the light hits them you will get a circular effect where the highlight is on the metal.

Bubbaloo- I don't know if just having roughness will allow the scratch to "catch" the light... I could be wrong.

I think that I get it w.r.t those procedural textures.... is that why my wood textures (and others I have seen) appear blurry when taking too close a shot?

If so then Hell yeah I want procedural textures too!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :).......

I want to get at this testing too but I am painting my house and studio at the moment :)

So, is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot for your response, I will update and […]

did you tried luxCore?
