what would be the simplest way to temporarily disable the Maxwell plugin? (need to create some 2D dwgs from my model and having some crashing issues with v5 beta and McNeel suggested doing this).

Will disabling the plugin affect current Maxwell material assignments?

Well, plugins don't really 'disable' that simply; you can set the current renderer to Rhino (main menu > Render > Current Renderer) and disable real-time plugin materials (top toolbar in database manager), but the plugin will continue to run, so long as Rhino loads it. The only way to truly disable it would to be prevent it from loading; that would mean, purging all Maxwell data from the file using something like the Maxwell_SaveAsWithoutMaxwellData command. Obviously, this will affect the Maxwell data - it will no longer be there. As long as there is Maxwell data in a document, Rhino will load the plugin.

Since you are apparently having crashes that I am not experiencing here, I'll email you with some further info.

Does not sound like I would want to do that.

Also, I'm not suggesting that the Maxwell plugin is causing the crashes...just responding to McNeel's comment.

Well, we'll know more of what's happening when they send me some of your crash reports. I think that usually takes a few days or so.

turns out that there is a checkbox in the Rhino plugin window that can bring up a dialog box upon startup requesting if you want a particular plugin loaded or not. When I ran the make2Ddrawing of my model (see Maxwell WIP forum - "Maxwell House") it crashed with the Maxwell plugin loaded, but not with it not-loaded, so perhaps there is something. The ram usage for making the 2d drawing is HUGE...9GB  The problem is that I did not get that txt file when I crashed, so had nothing to forward....anyway, will keep on the alert and keep you informed as I am able to get crash reports. Does the Rhinocrashdump.3dm file do you any good? It seems to have nothing in it...0kb.

Yes, I forgot about that checkbox. I'll try to do some tests with make2ddrawing; the plugin should not even have any code running during that, but we'll see. A 0-byte crashdump.3dm sounds like either Rhino has some rules about the largest file it'll crash-dump, or else that you are out of disk space. Either way, it wouldn't probably do any good - the .txt file (if there is one) is the one I'll be most interested in, along with some other info McNeel might send me regarding your crash report.

Thanks for letting me know, Joe - afaik, make2d is a pretty heavy-duty command once the model gets beyond a certain complexity. If it gives you trouble, I'd suggest trying the technical display mode and see if that is able to give you anything close to what you're looking for.
