One day at the architecture office in 2006, after 10 years of employment in architecture, I quit.
For the last three years I have been doing arch viz. It has been awesome. As some have mentioned, you make your own schedule. I have two boys so being able to plan play days around work is awesome. Yes, it can get a bit stressful when things slow down. But I have kind of stopped worrying about it so much. because no matter what, something has always came in to keep me going.
I do a marketing push every June/ July where I mail out over 300 mailers to interior designers, architects and developers. Out of the 300 I may get one to three initial jobs from the mailers. You have to chase the work. After you have found it, believe it, then it will find you.
I still do some architecture as well. My wife, who is an architect, and I did an addition to our house. You can see it here.
