samson: love the water.. it looks like it mak awasome logo.. but blu on blu is a bit much.. -realflow looks like fun - glad i dont own it since it would be more"digital heroin" to play with.. and im sure id forget to eat once i started playin withit. maybe one day wellneed it in a project..

MAX: thanx for the explination..its still hard for me to understadn.. but what im lookin at inthe render is Cloth (thinSSS) first then a reflective geo with a emmiter pointing away form the cloth so it creates that "donut light shape" in the reflection?!.. wow.. the cloth (thinSSS) is pretty thin i take it? cuz the cloth looks so glossy.. what is your roughness on the thinSSS cloth 0 or high roughness?

Teabag: Hehe thanks! :) the scratches are a bit too extreme on that second aluminium, but with them toned down some it will look and feel alot better.

3DTP: To try to make it easier for you to understand i grabbed a screenshot and painted some on it. See below for more info. To briefly explain how light travels from the emitter to the subject, it's like this.. from the emitter inside those such a spotlight, lights reflects, bounces around and the reflected light (caustics mostly) will travel through the thinSSS cloth which is covering the large softbox in which the subject is located. Light filters through the thinSSS material, gets softened by the thinSSS material and shoots down onto the subject in the centre of the softbox where it finally illuminates the little figurine.
Roughness for the cloth is pretty high, in this case it's 97,5 which gives it a tiny bit of reflectivity, but not a great deal. The donut shape you see in the cloth is from the reflector on the spotlight, as light bounces around in the reflector it will have a certain shape when it hits a object. Much like the typical lampshade patterns of IES lights. The thickness of the cloth is as a mesh only singlesided, meaning it has no actual thickness. But it does have thickness in the thinSSS material, i set it to 1mm thickness which might be over the top.

3DTP: Told you.. :) yep the entire subject is wrapped up inside a thinSSS container. I did try this in 1.7 before 2.0 was released to see if i could do it there but i could never get this type of illumination and materials i wanted for a enclosed scene like this. It was simply impossible! so yea, 2.0 does a damn fine job.

knurrebusk: I work in any type of visualisation i get a chance to work in, if it's archviz or jewelry or something else doesn't matter. :) the details in these might not be that high, if you're talking about the meshes themselves. They're intentionally lowpoly and relatively simple to keep down ram usage and rendertimes.

Great water, Sampson.

Max, your scratched alluminium is fantastic.

Very good work, all.

I also have some new skin-shader-setups cooking, this time with a more 'pleasant' looking girl-model instead of the old patient.
Pictures come soon.

MR seems to attract very talented people, why not prepare for good times, and develop the lisenced idea?
Like a marked to shop bright minds :)

I have proved myself in every area from fishfarms to huge villas, and detailed kitchens.
Not kidding!, but I do feel inferiour at some areas when I look at the gallery, whow! is there talent in this world.

Will not nitpick, but I can tell there is talent overflow connected to MR.
Almost make the greed take over my nice spirit, kidding/serious at the same time.

RK: Thank you! :) but you have seen nothing yet..

knurrebusk: That's true, we do have alot of very talented artists on this forum that works with Maxwell. Many of them posts their beautiful works of art in the gallery here, take a look and see what they have produced, mindblowing stuff! :) don't let the skill of others here scare you away from posting your own artwork. Everyone's welcome no matter their level of skill or years of experience.

I tuned the brushed/scratched aluminium some more, here are two new testrenders of it in action. Enjoy.. :)
