I wonder your opinion about the noise in maxwell render images:

Specify your working area if possible: ie. Architecture, Industrial Design, Jewelery, Botanic etc etc.

1) You prefer to render up to a high SL, without the use of any noise reduction procedure.
2) Your render your project for less time, and reduce noise with a NR digital filter.

Thanks in advance for your opinion.

2) Sometimes I render my project for less time, and reduce noise with a NR digital filter because it is not always obvious what causes the noise... especially for interior scenes

I usually render at relatively low SL (14-15-16 for interiors) and reduce noise in post with the support of Material ID
Had to look for a "look" that can stand the noise...but waiting for a decent renderfarm :wink:

I prefer smaller images at final stage. Everybody wants 300dpi posters but nobody wants to pay for rendertime or renderfarm as it costs few times more than i get for whole project. I have some example renderings at my standard 1920x1080px on 38x25 cm glossy paper from digiphoto, not printed on laserjet or inkjet. Everybody says it is enough when they see how can it look like. I mean it is quite good.

Interesting arkviz!
I have noted that noise is less noticeable at higher resolutions.
For example, an image of 1920x1080 at SL 15 that looks good takes more time compared to an image of 3840x2160 (which is double the previous) at SL 10 which takes less time to render, and looks as good as the previous.
I am still making tests to make sure it works in most cases, but in the meantime if someone have noted something related, I would be glad to read your opinion.

Perhaps the right option should have been: 1) I do render up to a high SL, without the use of any noise reduction procedure.

I agree. I prefer to render at higher resolution than needed and scale the image down (if necessary ;))

Yes in my cases it was like You say, double size and than reduce. I was playing with materials in 1.7 and discovered interesting things. With materials You can speed up exterior renders with hi-poly trees. For example white walls are like before but materials like tree leafs or grass have some aditive 100% black layers. More black layers more speed. Now i have trees about 100-150k polys with double sided translucent geometry (not sss component) rendering much faster than lower poly non translucent used before. I have earlier 8core mac pro, usual bechmark for exterior is 50-150, it is slower when i have car or schrubs under tree. Now i am testing hi poly grass and it is good. Before my bechmarks were much lower with many trees, 10-15 maybe. Ususally i render exterior until sl13-16. I am still on 1.71 and much older c4d plugin, because 2.0 has many bugs and i am not able to render anything as every scene crashes on voxelization when there are instances.
