I am not shure, but the first test I did was very disappointing. hoping for a 3 to 5 times speed increase, I only found that the quality is less in the same amount of time. (see images below).
I took an existing mxs, opened in 2.0 without modifications, set the time to 20 minutes, and hit render.
apart from the fact that it stopped after 19 minutes instead of 20, I have the impression that the overall quality is less than with 1.7. there is more noise above the dark grey door on the left, and on the white outside ceiling above the largest window.

questions:
- do I need to reapply the materials to get a speed increase?
- is my 8core mac not using all processors while I just bought 1 license?

tnx

Weird...Most of my scenes reach an improvement of 30-50% faster with mwr2. And exteriors are about 2 or more times faster.

I am getting the same in the few scenes I have tried, even 2x faster is not a small speed increase

Wimver, thanks for the file, the only materials I changed were the AGS ones. So many additive layers can cause excessive noise, so I just used the AGS wizard and created new ones, they will be more efficient. I should have made the balcony one less transparent, but that won't increase the noise.

So with this change, 20min on an i7 920 (set to 3.2Ghz), you have a higher BM than me so yours will look even cleaner:

Although, Mihai has set the reflection a bit high for my taste. :) Mihai, is that the default value in the wizard? 12.5%?

Mihai and Tom?

Is it the golden rule that most materials should be updated for V2 or is it more so just those that use addative?

I think a sticky about what materials compositions should most likely be updated would be great!

When one has a vast library of materials it would be an advantage to narrow down culprits!!
