Hey everybody, I don't post often, but when I do, it's because I've put some thought into something. I have a few requests for Maxwell 2.x. Some of these may have been covered elsewhere, so I apologize for duplicate requests. All my experiences are with 3DSmax, but the issues may be in other modelers/plugins.
-Light sizes seem to affect noise. Multi-light seems to affect noise- All counter-intuitively. For example, a scene with large studio lights and tiny task lights will have super-noisy task lights. If you delete the large lights, the task lights render fine. If you keep the large lights but turn on multi-light, the task lights render fine. (!) Obviously something is odd about that.
-Instances of glass, clear plastics, liquid, don't render correctly. They block light, even with Hidden-to-GI checked or shadow casting turned off. I don't think unchecking instancing even helped. The way around it is obviously to make all items unique. Can that be fixed?
-I wish I didn't have to turn off GI for glass/clear plastic objects to get them to render clean.
-Since Max2010 has been crashing my Mat Libraries, I started just exporting MXMs, When I export MXMs with Maps, the offsets get changed in the bitmap settings. I have to zero them out inside the mxm so they can import without the offsets.
-For simple R2 settings, a spinner would be great. For more complex, maybe that's when we load in an actual .r2 file.
-I know this is huge, but a realtime activeshade Maxwellian render would be a game changer. Vray's is amazing. I can't believe how much it speeds up workflow.
Thanks for your time!
Ian
