I don't pretend to be impartial: I love Maxwell, and deservedly so. I'm not an employee; I don't get paid. I've been a volunteer here for four years because Maxwell was, is, and remains the best looking render engine on Earth, period. Joining the team was a tremendous privilege which I've been grateful for every day since. Maxwell has my loyalty because it earned it, and earns it every day. And if that was true before, it's doubly true with v2.0.

I have a better idea: all cry-babies can go and use Vray or something like it. Well, what are you waiting for? Don't do unto others what you don't like your clients to do to you.... cry and wine and complain for good work. I'll continue waiting and sure gonna buy the V2, it's what put food on my table (and bikes and snowboard and lots more).

Maxwell is the best so far and probably with V2.0 it will be for the next year too!
I choose Maxwell for every work because it is easy to use and even though I can find some things that need to be fixed asap, I can't find anything like Maxwell... The V2.0 features look great and the speed and noise improvement are very promising... So, I must agree with those who don't like to hear many complaints at least not before the release...
Another thing with Maxwell which probably exists with all unbiased renderers, is the extra cost for better PCs... That is a problem for me because I don;t get much money for my renderings... nobody in Greece does I think...
But I can't blame the software for this...

let me have a question please:

now that version 2 is announced... will this recent 1.7.1 release be the last 1.x and by that means free version?
is the next step v2 or will nl still deliever 1.x releases till v2 comes out?

thx.

additionally one more question: will the development (support?) of the 1.x series be interrupted when v2 comes out or are there gonna be two parallel maxwell roads?

What do you mean? Maxwell 1.7 is a finished product and Maxwell 2.0 is a new release of the same app...If you have AutoCAD 2008, then you get ACAD2009,ACAD2010 etc... There is no ACAD2008.1, ACAD2008.2....

It is not like Indigo for example.... (They decided to make Indigo a commercial product but they will keep a free version too...)

I think if NL sent a demo or something too all of us clients, this too LOOOOOOOOOONG topic would be silent. We are bored waiting for the noise to clear while watching again and again the ver. 2 promos. And bored people type stuff without thinking too much or thinking at all ;)

they could at least fix some major bugs in 1.7
- studio crashing on os x 1.5
- dof beeing wrong calculated
- network render problems
- ...

but I would not expect any new features.

hm... i'm not sure if your saying is commenting my questions. if so, then i'm sorry that my questions seem to have no sense for you.
since some software producers do give support for their older releases, i thought this might be a reasonable question - not just for me... and... me, i'm not bored, by the way.

but trying to be realistic, i of course did not think of additional features or such but much more of some fixes in buggy sections... just as kami said.
