what you show is escellent, but again.. the artists behind... I've seen some PS hand painted grass that was fantastic also..

as if Maya can convert them to polygon (unlike Modo) , then I guess it can be exported to mxs.. no real idea though because I've never used Maya.. so just a guess... I'm sure Mike knows the in & out's for this... :wink:

Maya can export most anything to polygons, including Paint FX.

Agree that its the artist that counts, but in a production environment there is still something to be said for speed & efficiency gains in combining various products. Maxwell does a lot of things very well but certainly has some room for improvement.

In fact, to be able to use paint effect with mental ray you have to convert the paint effect to polys due to maya interanl render is the only renderer able to render paint effect directly. So, yes you can use those paint effect with maxwell render, but you know what will happen, thousand and thousands of polys.

.. but Maxwell goes easy with pretty high poly counts.. and the render time does not really suffer.. but I talk about my own experience.. :wink:

you are right about Modo, even if we get a plugin things like fur etc, will not work.
Same story with maya almost...

Yes, I know maxwell can handle lots of polys very well, but you will need lots of ram :wink:

a lot of ram and cpus here but still there is more to it...no time to wright an essay perhaps NL could do that.

btw. his file had around 900M poly and he rendered it on a computer with 4 GB ram....
using mr_proxy objects and such
the instance intersection problem is what would need to be fixed for maxwell to make that work.

Really an amazing rendering! Seen somewhere else I would never guess that this was 3d. it really looks like a photo - not even a very good photo - lol

Not saying that isn't impressive - it most certainly is - but the hair looks odd, doesn't it? I'd give an arm to be able to do that, though!

Not my own, obviously. :twisted:

Great texture work, but the hair is not quite photorealistic. I am always a little bit skeptical about these face renders. There's so much you can do with camera mapping techniques, that all you really need is a generic head model and a camera mapped face texture, add some hair, then render... Not saying that was done here, because I have no idea, but like I said, I'm skeptical until I see a few more views or turntable animation. :|
