Hi all, my problem is very simple, since all the PC's are so slow at the office, i want to use the mac ( mac book pro duo core) since after trying on blank files it is way way faster for rendering ( and we're in a rush!)

Steps
1: Installed MR 1.7.1 + license
2: copied all textures ( all material database folder) into that of the mac to replace the installed one.
3: Exporting the .mxs from the PC, open it into mxcl from the mac

From there there is no rendering possible: it basically says the textures are not found, mxi cannot be written etc etc: i'm relinking all to the right folders into the mac, but it keeps saying it looks for C:/ etc... paths....

anyone has a clue how to solve the problem? seems MR cannot find the textures grrrr..
Heeeeeelp!
thnx

How are you relinking the textures? Did you try just doing a Pack & Go of the scene on the PC so you have the scene and textures in one folder, then opening the mxs in Studio to see if it finds all the textures? Specify new output paths in Studio on the Mac and resave the scene, then try rendering it.

basically:
I've imported all material database folder from the PC to the mac " as is"
because it's not about just one project but all of them...
I'll try the studio open, relink, save to see what it says.. thnx

The materials will then still have the old paths from the PC. You could try the Fix texture paths option from the material editor in Studio (File menu in material editor). Just point to a folder where the mxm files are and it will try and fix the paths for the mxm files found there and also any subfolders.

Mihai,
Now i want to transfer all materials to the mac, but the paths of all mxm's textures ( jpgs..) are all linking to a C: path ( of the windows machine it was previously on).
What shall i do to relink them all at once so i dont have to manually search for the thousands of jpgs one by one...?

Thnx !

You could try what I mentioned above, the Fix Texture Paths function in the material editor. How are your organized? Are they in the same folder as the mxm files? Are they spread out in different folders on your PC? Fix texture paths will relink the textures, it will look for them first of all in the same folder the mxm is in, and also in any texture paths you have set in prefs in Studio (Materials>Paths).

Well it does not work: when i try to find missing links, the textures are in grey in the studio> unable to select any :(

Also for the studio use, if fix paths works the problem is i cannot seem to save the fixed paths for whole the library so i can use it standalone and corrected can I?
Since am never using studio, i want to be able to fix paths, then save that fix, then use it directly in Sketchup

Let me know how :)

thnx

The Fix Texture Paths function is available in MXED as well. You select it, and then select the folder where your mxm files are. It will then go through that folder and any subfolders and fix the paths to the textures for all mxm files it finds. You can also try first setting your texture path prefs in Studio before running this function and MXED will look in those paths for the textures when fixing the paths.

Strangely enough in studio the paths are well indicated ( in prefs menu) however it seems that the textures are not found anyway

From sketchup after i open a small file, and render it render fails in mxcl because of missing textures

From Studio when i open a .mxs shows that all textures are missing images, despite the good paths shown in preferences... when i hit a mxm in the material editor it says fix paths> then it does not work after goof folder is chosen...Really strange..

Basically it seems the paths work but the files (images) are not recognized...?

So when you open this mxs in Studio it shows you the dialog asking for the missing textures? Could you send me an mxm that doesn't work properly, and also it's textures?
