Hi there,

I'm doing the modelling and rendering for a product concept (uni..) It's basically an enhanced steam cleaner:

I don't think the visual clues are good enough to indicate that the arrows represent hot water vapour (aka steam :) Any suggestions / examples on how to do this nicely would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Thanks Max! It's not going to be animated (phew!) Do you mean something like this:

It's tricky to not make it look like the coloured vapour is gonna stain your carpet  :?

The arrows are not final btw, can be changed...

Maybe try grey instead of red to make the look of steam. The arrows could be light grey also and see how that looks. I think what you have is fine though and illustrates the point.

that is also what I would have done...

Wow Leonardo, that is spot on! What were your settings / method for this effect?

I guess steam isn't really as abstract as I thought, and as Eric said, grey is much better than red paint mist

Bubba, yeah I don't have the time at the moment, but I'm curious to see what it'd look like with Realflow+Maxwell SSS, if you wanna give it a shot (and a week at least, haha)

Realflow+Maxwell SSS sounds too complicated... I rather spend 2 min in postwork in photoshop

johann._, send me a pm tomorrow... When I'm back to the office I'll hook you up with some photoshop brushes and I'll explain a little what I did ( If you can send me a bigger (final) image even better).
