This attempt once again proves that a proper lighting is everything.

Looks good Max. I understand what you mean about the setups too: everything is so much easier when you have an intuitive grasp of the scene.

I did find that umbrella so I'll send you a PM when I have an HDRI together. It's just a white one (with a silver backing), but it will do just fine I think.

great work, as always :)
beeing a bit sarcastic: you didn't model the tripod with the camera, did you? ;)
I really love the modelling, studio setting and its result! It's just a shame I got no studio experience and almost never have to make studio renderings.

Tom: You might be right about that :) timeconsuming method but hopefully much more accurate.

Bubba: Thank you! :) choosing which material to use for this test was not easy, i thought of using a white material, similar to marble with a weak sss on it. But sss is quite timeconsuming so i picked one from my brass collection instead.

Brett: Thanks :) yes having the 'real' lamps to work with makes life alot easier when rigging a shot like this. All you have to do is place the lamp, rotate it and adjust it's intensity. Pretty much what you do in real life when you shoot subjects in a studio. :)
Last but not least, i greatly appreciate it that you took the time to dig out your umbrella and shot a hdr of it. I owe you one now Brett, cash it in when you want and need. :)

Hervé: Thanks, you're too kind sir

kami: Many thanks! :) i actually thought about modeling a tripod for the camera, and might still do that hehe.

yanada: Too kind, thanks! :)

Btw, i almost forgot to post. Here's what the setup looks like in C4D of the latest renderings i posted.

very cool, I've been thinking of doing something like this as well (these props would help with interior renders too) but don't have the time…

thanks and I look forward to you sharing them

wait a min.... I think the flash with umbrella is reversed no..? unless it is a translucent umbrella... or is it an umbrella with a reflector.. :?

lebbeus: Thanks :) yep, you and many others have been thinking about doing this for a long time, but it usually stops there hehe ..about sharing them, we'll see what i will do about that. I haven't decided yet. Maybe they will go on sale instead.

Teabag: :) thanks Mr Tea, check the new testrenders below.

Hervé: If you're talking about the preview screenshots above then no it ain't reversed. But reversed umbrellas do exist, and i used one reversed umbrella in my testrenders below with a reflector on it (white cloth in this case).

This is what the setup looks like.. sorry it's a bit dark but it's a viewport view in C4D.

Here's a rather quick 60 minute rendering using one large softbox placed above the model.

This render ran all night long, for 9 hours which is why it's so clean. Same setup here with a single inverted umbrella and a chromesphere so you can see the location of the umbrella. :)

No worries Hervé, it happens. :)

dd: You commented on something i created ?! sorry i'm a bit shocked as it came a bit unexpected and sudden. Didn't know you also created a studio. It's most llkely looking better than mine so you should share it again.

Blitzor:  thank you! if i didn't do it then someone else would have done it sooner or later. :) any type of help is appreciated, and especially if you have some sorta real photostudio equipment and you can grab some pics of how it's constructed, what it looks like when it emits light and what function it has in a studiosetup. That's basically what i need to know right now.
