i just found out that my camera also supports the Adobe RGB color profile.
would you recommend switching to this as it has a wider color gamut?

I forgot to say you can also prefer Coated FOGRA39 profile instead of ISO Coated v2 which is already based on FOGRA39. Because it comes with Photoshop already. You will also see FOGRA27 which is older version of FOGRA39 (http://www.fogra.org/products-en/icc39-40.html). It has slightly narrow and different shaped gamut on blue/violet edges.

Hrm, is this Fogra norm v2 though? Because there is a huge difference between ISOcV1 and ISOcV2. I do all my recent jobs with a v2 destination, and most printers require this too here in germany/europe.

Tom, could you please say something about how to work with profiles/color spaces when having textures render in maxwell (i.e. CI colors in logo textures that have very exact values) and the resulting render you save from a mxi.

I had the feeling that depending on the format export, the color space differs?!?
I don't believe this is true though, as I've tried to assign to sRGB in Photoshop because when I do my adjustments with Multilight and save it out, lets say as a png, the opened unprofiled png will look totally burnt out before assigning sRGB which is not really a good source colorspace because its much smaller than adobe or eci ...

Well, yes they are not equal but very close as they are based on same profile. FOGRA has implemented 27 for coated stuff then upgraded it to 39. ECI on the other hand improved FOGRA set and developed ISO Coated. I'm sure ECI's profile is superior but not all the printers are qualified, yet. So, 27 or 39 will guarantee the job with most moderate level printers. It sounds great in Germany the printers have adapted to ECI profile quickly. Here they still print using 27 and rarely with 39. But, I'm trying some jobs with ECI embedded, let's see.[/quote]

Well, MXI color space is CIE1964 but Maxwell fits it into sRGB space (more or less) when displayed but it doesn't support embedding sRGB into saved images so, I suggest you to assigning sRGB (not converting you know) to your renders then proceed to another space if needed.

Tom, doesn't sRGB actually clip the image's gamut when saving as an 8 bit? Why would you want to assign a web color space when Adobe RGB 1998 has a wider color gamut to begin with? Or am I mistaken about that?

You're right. But the displayed output is already using the sRGB space so it's not you clipping it.

Kami, you should have ICC profiles of these devices. Have you checked the driver CD or the vendors' websites? Because there's no magical X profile which would do fine with all.
