Thanks Tom. I forgot to mention this was modeled in Rhino 2, so I rendered it in Max.

Thanks Max. The building is in DC, but I don't think the medallion has anything to do wth that. :)

Tom, I produced this model for someone else to render. So I have no idea how it is going to lit or textured. :)

Fran, really beautiful work. Do you use the NPower plugins for 3dsmax and Rhino?

Thanks Greg,

I use Power Translators. I'm finding that Rhino 3 is really slow at meshing complex models unless you use really coarse settings, so I have been using Max for rendering again. If the scene isn't much, I use Rhinoll if I don't need texturing.

excellent renders however, youre inspiring me to keep learning. :D

Frances, I pretty much do the same thing. I love Rhino for modeling but hate it for rendering - I'm hoping M~R will change that. Maybe I'm just too comfortable using 3dsmax for lights, materials, and cameras, but I find 3dsmax to be much easier to set up a scene than Rhino. I use power solids/translators all the time - I would be lost without them at this point.

BTW, where in Virgina are you located? My wife and I are heading down to Williamsburg for the first time next week.

Hi Greg,

I'm in Gloucester - about 45 mins from Williamsburg. I worked for an A&E firm there before the babies came. :)

Tips:
Best comfort food - Shield's Tavern (in the restored area)
Best sandwich (but everything there is good!) - The Cheese Shop (Merchant's Square)
Best Chinese food - Mr. Lui's (Kingsmill Shops)
Best Italian food - Guisseppi's (Ewell Station Shopping center in Lightfoot)

Take the time to drive the Colonial Parkway, which goes from Jamestown, through WB and down to Yorktown. But take your time - speeding is a Federal offense on that road.

Have fun. This is one of the most beautiful times of the year here. 8)

Thanks for the travel tips Frances! It's been quite some time since we have gone on a real vacation and we're really looking forward to it. We're staying at a B&B for the first time also :). My biggest worry is the weather - it's been a cold, wet spring in New England this year  and we are hoping for some nice warm weather!

Babies...:D how many?

Thanks again - Greg

You are really lucky. We had more than 34 degrees centigrade here in germany the last two days. It was really uncomfortably hot!

Hi Jack,

Generally, I will only render simple scenes with Rhinoll, because Rhino 3 is so slow at generating a quality render mesh. It's just easier to import to Max with Power Translators.

The materials for the small lobby are:

Paint - MW diffuse shade of white
Shiny trim and floor - MW Plastic; Specular Color Value 72; U & V roughness 0.2. Various colors
Handrail - MW Metal Aluminum U & V roughness .25
Light - MW emitter D65; 4000W
