Hi,

I let test my Photoshop CD by Adobe - PS6.0+upgradeCS2 - that I bought at ebay some months befor. Now I got the message, that the PS6 CD isn't legal and I can get PS Elements for 30€ or PS CS4 for 400€.
At the letter from Adobe no word about the legal CS2 upgrade CD. Will I get it back? I wrote to Adobe, that I'm interested on CS4 and now I'm curious - will I get back the legal upgrade CD? The price at ebay was not cheap, but ok. From my view also I could try to buy a legal PS 6 or to sell my proofed CS2 upgrade. Doe's anybody know more?

if youre just a normal user I would stick to version 7. cs4 is shite - slow, freezy, with bundles of irritating features, like a maxmise button that hides all the toolbars!!!

modern software is devolving my friend.

IMHO, CS3 is the last acceptable bloatware that's still possible to use. I can't find words to classify CS4, but it's not my software for sure.

Looks like the best would be, if I get back my legal CS 2 upgrade CD from Adobe and try to buy an old PS 6.

In the summer I bought Photoshop CS2 for $50. what a bargain

I had to submit a transfer of licensee form to Adobe ( we both had to fill out and sign) Did you have to do that Micha? I would also contact the ebay seller and see if he can work with you here.. and if its not a legitimate copy I would request your money back.

What's so bad about CS4?
I'm still working with CS3 and am quite happy with it (espacially when it comes to performance on an intel mac). I wouldn't want to work with anything below CS2 ...

I love the use of the GPU in CS4. And, for me, the feature to rotate the image while sketching has been the single most important feature since I started to use Photoshop..

Could you elaborate a bit more about why cs4 is so bad, I'm really interested in your thoughts, also what software do you recommend?

Thanks Tom, but to me there is no alternative to adobe products, I mean, I need to work with pixels, vectors and layout and the workflow between photoshop-illustrator-indesign is pretty neat. If i would only need a pixel application I could choose pixelmator, but still I need illustrator and indesign due to the lack of competence (maybe in a couple of years...)

Is always nice know what are your feedbacks.

I'm always baffled that there aren't more competing products around. The market for PS like apps should be huge. I cannot imagine that 2D doesn't plateau rather quickly. There are probably many ways to thread and optimize code, but 3D seems like a much tougher challenge.

So why aren't there more Photoshop killers around?

p.s. I hope Luxology creates a 2D pixel/vector suite

PS is something I tied with, too. GIMP etc can't be alternatives yet as they have poor or no CMYK support. Although when it comes to vectors and layout, I find CorelDraw's comfort in no application. Illustrator, Indegisn, Quark, FH etc. are 2nd for me. I have big hopes for Pixel as a replacement to PS. >> http://www.kanzelsberger.com Download its demo and see how blazingly faster applications are possible in a few megabytes. Gigabytes of CS4 is truly funny. CS4 also has more than 15000 asset files in the installer. That's a hilarious software engineering.

Unfortunatly only for Mac
But... built over http://www.imagemagick.org ! I've really seen magic become realty through Imagemagick programming.

What to say... I agree 100%!
Gimp is usable but still far from a daily use, not only CMYK, but layer filters... Corel is really nice!
I hope on Pixel, I'm one of the waiting customer. Until now no news, a part that one of the 15 Sep. Cross the fingers.
I thought only videogames had Gb installers!
