Yes I have tried to make something like this. It always ends up very noisy or not looking correct for some reason. I have not tried though since the new sss was implemented. I would start with a reqular clear plastic then add a sss layer with the silicon preset weighted to a low value. You may even want to throw in a white diffuse layer with a low weightmap value to help speed things up.

For now i'm enough satisfied with this image, but it's only a test reneder, we'll see tomorrow...

The milky white plastic pointed by Bjorn should give you something not too bad but not enough transparent. Also try the silicon material or may be a mix of the silicon and the milky material. It's strange that the file is corrupted. Have you tried to download the set one more time? If you still have some problem with this material, send me a PM with your email address and i will send you back the mxs file.

Hi Hyltom

yes, i've reach a good material and i've downloaded the shaders. Sorry for the confusion, your files are perfectly, it's the mxs file of my scene that is corrupted, but i've exported again it from LW. This is the latest test...

Thanks

Hi!

Looking pretty good. How if you try render it with a darker backgroun (like the photo) perhaps the qualities of the material can be assessed and comparet better..

I'm doing similar work atm.
I'm visualizing a range of beauty products.

Here's one part I rendered with a very simple material w/o SSS using Skydome in White only: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 6&start=17

It's an easy 3-Layer Material. 1 Layer for Diffuse, 1 for Specularity and one extra coating on top. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to mxm's so I'm sure there could be some strange value here and there.

Here are the settings:

Good luck! And post some renders if you're done ; )

Single SSS component using Silicone Gel preset should achieve this look like nothing else can. :)

Thanks for sharing this Joris! I'll try your solution:-)

Tom, you're right and it was my first idea, but those withe refractions in the plastic are really difficult to create. My real objects mantain also this white coat in every light situation. BTW the client is satified for now, but for me is not enough 8)

Thanks
