Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

I just thought that it would be nice to have the moon in Maxwell s simulation. Just think of having the moon at different phases helping light your scene. As well as showing up in the background. Is this even possiable. I dont know of a single rendering engine biased or un-biased who has this feature? my 2 cents. Gadzooks

good idea.
that would also solve the problem with pysical sky, which changes from sunset to completely black, from one minute to another.

Fryrender had Moon some time ago, then was removed. Maybe there's some incompatibilities with the sky model.

That would be a great feature if it's possible to include in Maxwell sky

That would be awesome. Would add a nice touch to nighttime renders.

bump.

I still want this. Would love to hear from the NL team if this is possible/impractical/super-difficult, or just another annoying extraneous feature request. (I'll be the first to admit I probably wouldn't use it very often). I imagine trying to light an entire scene with just moonlight would be ... time-consuming.

Related: has anyone found a good HDRI of a night sky with a full moon?

i'm going to second this.

Moon lighting (or anything decent when sun < horizon = 0) is a feature missing from (i think) every single render engine out there. it is sorely missing from Mental Ray, making physical daylight system useless when sun is < horizon = 0, meaning that if you want to do a pure night render you have to fake it by playing around with the sun to make it cold to appear white/blue. not terribly physically based! if you simply use physical sun/sky and you set the time to, say 4am at night, the whole image goes a funny green/brown colour. clearly not correct for real physical lighting at this time of day. a moon (or simply a "Nightlight System") would be fantastic.

i would very very much like this feature to be present in maxwell. it would be an industry first!

cheers,

Moon would be very cool! Stars would be nice as well... and as has already been stated should be a feature that is on all the time, since they are always there.

Best,
Jason.

I've got a render going now faking the moon with a very low powered and adjusted sun looks convincing albeit a little small and no stars!

Are you kidding? Mate you haven't been to Australia then! The milky way! Mate here when you get way away from the city the sky on a dark clear night can almost look cloudy given what the milky way presents - you realise the idea that we are alone may not have a lot of basis!

I've been there and I've seen it. Such a beautiful sky.
I even tried to take a picture of it, which failed horribly. Maybe I'd be the same with maxwell ... :D

My god that must be an amazing site to see. So much light pollution where i live.

So, is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot for your response, I will update and […]

did you tried luxCore?
