I had this problem the other day, ...a reinstall sorted it out for me, & make sure the licence.dat file is in the maxwell folder.

Probably you have more than one Maxwell installed in your system (probably an older version). Please locate the other copies and delete them (you must empty also the Trash)

If you double click on a mxs file it will open with the MXCL that the OS has as default it will help you find the bad copies.
