Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

I'm telling you, I'd be willing to buy your model for something in the line of $50-70. I'm not saying it's not worth more, the amount of work put behind that definately is, but I't just not worth more for me right now.

hehe, nice try Bjorn.. hehe sure you could make a good price for our friends.. but $200 is the good price. remember.. what cost nothing is worth nothing.. 99% of time.. besides.. if people buy it.. they'll use it professionaly.. and make money out of it.. so..$200 is good.. 8)

Selling it cheap is not a good idea.. or soon the 3D job will be worth shit, and we'll all sleep in our cars... :D

Good points Hervé, I agree. I'm just quoting a price based on what the model would be worth for me right now, as a buyer. I figured that's what he asked for. I'm convinced it might be worth more for someone else that might need it more badly, or even if it was made exclusively for the company that carries that model outboard engine - then it's a whole different story.

But for me, just browsing the web looking for a cool model to render, that price would be what I was looking for.

I think this is not true for software and similar things.... For example there are great freeware apps, even renderers, great free 3d model sites etc....
besides.. if people buy it.. they'll use it professionaly.. and make money out of it.. so..$200 is good..
I think the success of someone's work doesn't depend on one model, prices should be reasonable. 200 € for example, is too much because I can buy a full collection of Evermotion with less.

Is this the same way you think as a customer? Do you find other's prices justified? I guess not... So, as I said, prices must be reasonable

..well true.. but where do you draw the line between some static mesh and a high quality nurbs model like Thomas's one?

if a piece of lego sells for 1$ ... that engine can't go below 150$, imho.

just a thought:

maybe upload 2 versions a cheap pre meshed one, geometry only, and a .3dm/.iges with all materials textures etc...

people who need the nurbs will know it is worth it.....

JTB, it's mostly true for apps.. but rarely for models... there is always a oups ! or sometimes the model is stolen from somewhere else... Thomas work is exceptional, and the model is nurbs.. and this is not the point... you can buy a $20 pair of shoes.. or a $500 one.... after a certain point of quality, details start to count and often multiply the price of a model...

Also Turbosquid is a sure place, people try to avoid DL files from "non-secure-god-knows-from-where" sites...

a motor boat engine low quality - free or $10 at the max
a motor boat engine good quality - free or $60 at the max
a motor boat engine quality AAA - $200

so in fact this way people have the choice..

I am selling 4 bananas for $90 at Turbosquid .. but you can buy others at Turbosquid much cheaper.. and "almost the same quality"..... jsut sold some a week ago..

Bjorn, I was talking about a real need for a precise project, where your client wants a AAA motor boat engine... if I understand you need one more or less for showing Maxwell & teaching... different need... same... engine :D

yep, you got me right. Perhaps some sort of differentiation would be in place. Sell one version with just the shell (no motor inside) or something. Or Polygon-versions for that sake.. I'm not sure. Hard question.

I've never sold anything on Turbosquid. Is that the "main" site for 3D-models to sell and buy? Do you have any more experience on this, how many bananas have you sold, if you don't mind me asking? (they're top notch btw).

how many..? hehe secret.. but quiet a few.. ok.. actually 3, but they just there for 3 months.. I am sure if I would have sold them just half, I would not have a better score... or ok.. let's say I would have "maybe" sold 5... hehe... 5 x $45 would still be lower than 3 x $90... so after all it's all a balance... people that usually buy stuff from there really need it..

(and yes pretty much the place to sell stuff)

Cool, thanks for sharing. Pricing is one of the most interesting, and one of the hardest parts of many of our business I'd say...
