I know others have experienced this before - where you render something and it looks faceted even though it shouldn't. Then you turn off the bump and it renders fine. I used to think it was an issue with the pixel dimensions of the map.

Instead, I found that if the bump map is in both the base layer and reflection layer, it can create that faceted effect. When the bump was only on my reflection layer, the net effect was the same, but the smoothing looked fine.

Hope that helps somebody.

NL: Is that supposed to happen?

What should matter really is the amount of bump you have set, the lighting setup, and how many polys the object has. It has to do with how the smoothing between polys is calculated, how much of it can be 'faked'. If you decrease the bump a bit you should get less facetting.

It was only a value of 1 though. I still think its a bug, considering I can get rid of the problem just by turning off bump on one of my material layers.
