I was looking forward to using the network, as it has been some time since it worked.
So I started with two Mac Intels, (running 10.5.4 maxwell 1.7.1) as render nodes.
Then on a third Mac Intel I opened the manager then the mxcl software.
(OS 10.5.4, maxwell 1.7.1)
I selected the network tab in the mxcl and clicked connect which showed both render nodes.

Clicking "ADD" I find the mxs I want to network render only to be told that the mxs is "not valid or obsolete"

I checked the permissions but they where correct. So I quit the manager.
Went back to the mxcl file>open MXS then clicked the "render" button and the same file rendered with no problems!!!!!!

The mxs is created from Studio we do not use the plug-ins.
(The same file rendered at ranchcomputing with added fire flys)

I then tried this on a G5 running the same software with exactly the same results.

Also tried three other mxs with the same results.

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Hi wow1,

Could you post the exact path that the mxs file has?

thanks

The pack and go mxs and supporting files are together in one folder with the same name as the mxs. (As we sent to ranchcomputing.)

The folder was tested in two places with the same result.

One was on a second drive inside the Mac Intel and the other was my user folder.

Paths:

Test 1:
/Volumes/wowm041filing/recep_opt1/recep_opt1.mxs

Test 2:
/Users/wow001/Documents/recep_opt1/recep_opt1.mxs

I get this problem too - even with the basic cornell.mxs and simball files. Network rendering has given me nothing but headaches and no results in 1.7.1 - it's awful

Please could you give me answer to the network problem, it has been three days since a emailed the technical support with no answers. If it doesn't work that please let me know so I can make other arrangements.

I noticed that your system is 10.5.3 may be that makes a difference.
Also our mxs is being generated from the Studio not cinema 4d I do not know if that makes a difference either.

We had the network rendering working under 1.6 but with only with two macs any more and it kicked out.

Maxwell 1.7.1
are you doing cooperative renders or separate frames?

I am trying cooperative render of one still image created in maxwell studio with one manager and two nodes.

Sorry - I meant to ask Mr Gog

nachob found the problem.
I had a user name the same as the hard drive name.
Even though I was logged in as a different user it caused the problem.

On nachob's suggestion was to change the name of the hard drive to one that was different to any of the user accounts on that computer and now I have four nodes happily rendering.

thanks for the time.
