Hello, I need to render a complex scene with lots of emitters at something like 10000X5000 pixels to about SL 20... my computers cannot handle this. Is it possible at all somehow, somewhere ? thanx.

You should perhaps consider sending your project to a renderfarm like rebus or ranch.
Also, it might help posting the scene for optimizing here first, so that you won't up paying alot over the for long unnecessary rendertimes.

Hard to give any advise without seeing the scene, but one way to render out massive scenes is to split up the geometry into 2-3 different scenes and merge the rendered images in Photoshop.

I could give it a try in my "farm"
But a scene like that should'nt need more than SL 18 with the right optimization

thanx. what is the right optimization? the scene has about 100 emitters and simple materials... maybe I'm missing something?
p.s. - since it's a special size the client is aware that there will be an extra cost for the extra-sized render. I need to know if it's possible at all...

I guess that your emitters are just simple planes? (2 polygons/plane)
Perhaps some emitters can be hidden for that view?

Anyway its probably doable, I needed to deliver a 14000 pixles wide image once, I rendered it in 10000 pixles res and then used Genuine Fractals to interpolate it. Worked like a charm!

If you do a pack and go, I can see what res I can render it in.

ok thanks (emitters are simple spheres btw) I'm gonna pack it

Big No-No :)
One sphere creates ALOT of polygons...
You want as few polygons / emitter as possible!

If you use spheres it will affect the SL and the memory usage

OK then.... it's too messy to replace all emitters with surfaces now since it will change the lighting, so I'm gonna have to try a render farm if my client approves .... are you sure it's too heavy on the machines? I use complicated emitters most of the time since it's nicer ;)

Yes I'm shure, there are loads of info about this.
One of the most important opimization IMHO when it comes to reaching a nice result in a less high SL.

But do a pack and go anyway, it could be intresting to see what my machines can handle
