Polunurb that looks DEADLY!!!! Nice modeling and rendering.. I have to say just perfect! I have gone to HDRI's for lighting my jewellery but really like the effect you achieved from a single emitter plane it looks very good and is making me reconsider some simple plane emitters for lighting!

Hyltom- could you explain in short what your script does? I was just wondering how a script would control lighting effects... if this is too much info to ask don't be offended I am still learning a lot here from osmosis :)!

The script help you to determine where to put your emitter in order to get the reflection where you want on your product. So first you have to setup the camera view. Then you run the script (from a button), it will ask you where do you want to get a reflection on your object. Then base on the camera position and the surface of the product, it will create a line showing you where to add the surface or object you want to see in your reflection. If you want to see a emitter reflected on your product than that means you have to create a plane. So the second script will help you to create a rectangle perpendicular to the reflection line.

I hope you will understand my poor explanation... :D

Wow Hyltom, that is a cool script!

thanks for posting 8)
woks great...very helpful indeed

i was thinking of something similar using the "_bounce" command, but i am a bit lame when it comes to scripting :roll: ...still a lot to learn here.

.. basically i was thinking of a script that projects parallel rays aligned to the sun's position.. to get an idea of shadow casting with sunlight.
..just to quickly check how the sunlight would enter a room / hit an object.
just pick a point (eg window corner) and see where the light hits the floor...

@caryjames

Thanks for your kind comment... i think one of the advantages of simple emitter planes is that they can clear really fast, but for high end product shots, that script Hyltom posted is extremly helpful!

jespi, that is a very motivating comment :D
.. but i have to admit the designer of the lamp accomplished the biggest part of what you see in the renders :wink:

Thanks guys and Hyltom thanks for the explanation! Scripting is a little over my head at the moment but as I go I will keep it in mind for the future- very cool idea. And again Polynurb.... cool render!
