Hi Everyone: I was wondering why I couldn't change the lighting appearance of a jewellery scene that I am lighting using an HDRI. I decided that I would run a little test to see if I could get to the bottom of the issue. I ran a little test with a simple metal sphere and my HDR. It doesn't seem to matter what I do the lighting stays in the same position.

Here is my scene at 0 rotation

60degree rotation

120 rotation

240 rotation

I am in the Rhino plug in under the Environment tab and am selecting scene rotation. Am I doing something wrong? This is an HDR that I purchased from HDRI Studio so I know that the file is good. Any thoughts would be more than welcome!!

Thanks in advance

The problem is that Scene Rotation is the wrong thing to use for this - you need to use the Scale and Offset parameters for the Image Based channel you want to adjust. Scene Rotation is used to adjust where North points to in the Rhino scene, that is, it affects Physical Sky - I'll try to clarify this a bit more next time I update the plugin manual.

So JD... how would I rotate the HDR around my scene? Could you point me in a direction? Sorry again to be obtuse :). Thanks.. and I am headed to the manual again to see if it has anything on this issue.

Here's what you're looking for:

If you use click/drag on those fields, you'll find the adjustment can be seen in the viewport as you do so. Note, the offset units are in percent.

Cheers...

Hi JD,

Is it always good to Disable "Physical Sky" under the Disable Channel under the Image Based setting? I see that you disable this for the below example. Also from read your tutorial forum for Rhino, you also Disable channel for physical sky too. What are the good advise on this?

Hi Brian,

I'm not sure I understood the question - Physical Sky is not disabled for Image Based lighting in this example. To do so, one would set 'Disabled Channel Lighting' to 'None'. In this example though, it would not matter what 'Disabled Channel Lighting' was set to, since all four Image Based channels are being used.

Just let me know if I've misunderstood what you're asking.
