The 1st full render of my Fokker Dr.1 model. Colour scheme depicted is that of 213/17 flown by Ltn. Friedrich Kempf.

This 500,000+ polygon model was made with Cinema4D 9.6 and painted using BodyPaint. Maxwell Render 1.7 used for the materials and render.

Thank you for taking a look.

I been following your wip thread from the start and i have to say such dedication to detail & accuracy, documentation of your entire workflow, the process, the modeling, texturing and all that is as beautiful as the final rendering itself looks.

Great work John! :)

Now i know you're finished, but there's two things i'd like to see. This airplane placed in an enviroment or comped in a old photograph or something like that. And also the colorbanding in the blue sky now, if you have a 16 or 32bit source image then try to fix that in Photoshop by converting it properly to 8bit.

NicoR44: Thank you.

Maximus3D: Thank you too. I agree about a better environment - the next render will have a photographed sky which will also resolve the faint colour banding (made worse by the JPEG conversion).

A render of the writing on the wings would probably be useful too. I took some photo's the other day of a grassed area to try and composite a grounded version.

I might try another more colourful scheme. There are items that can still be further improved and added. However, this model has consumed a lot of time so any further additions will be as when time allows.

Awesome job!

Please show us a render of the details you like best; maybe a shot from under the blades to the back would be cool.

simmsimaging: Thank you.

Fernando Tella: Thank you also. I can't really say which part of the model is my favourite - I like them all! - probably because some of them I found quite challenging ie: the cowl shape and upper metal panels.

Anyway, this is the 2nd full render of my Fokker Dr.1 213/17 model.

The sky backdrop was composited in as postwork, helped along by an alpha image from Maxwell Render 1.7.

Thank you for taking a look.

Maximus3D: Thank you. Yes the clouds are from a photo that I recently took.

Looks great. Your attention to the details has paid off. I would like to see some exhaust! It's nice motion blur on the prop and engine, but what about slight blur on the rest of the plane? I also vote for a nice "at rest" render on the ground from eye level!

Bubbaloo: Thank you. The lack of noticable exhaust is because there are no exhaust pipes for it to be emitted from - the engine exhausted directly from each cylinder head and I'm assuming any visible fumes are quickly dispersed from the airscrews air flow? Replica aircraft using the same engine do not display much in the way of exhaust smoke after they have have fired up.
