Guys,

I want to mate this gear to the Rack-spur, I've looked in the help but I can't get it right.
can any of you give me a quick explanation of how it's done?

The same number of teeth as has the wheel should fit in 2 * 3.141592 * wheel radius. Radius should be measure from center to half the height of the tooth.

Hi Curt,

I don't use SW much, but I think you would probably do that with two mates: a Coincident using two faces of the rack and the pinion, and a 'Rack Pinion' mate using one of the straight edges of the rack and the circular contour of the pinion. 'Rack Pinion' mate is in the 'Mechanical Mate' expander in the mates feature-editor:



I didn't take the time to make an assembly, but if you posted yours I could try it out...anyway, I hope it helps.

I hope it works; I'm not usually doing this. Just remembered the formula for the perimeter of a circunference: 2*PI*r

Edit: I see JD knows better what you are talking about. I know nothing about Solidworks.

What are you trying to do exactly? Are you making it so the gear moves down the rack? Or just mating the teeth? Or both?
